The student-athletes from our league schools met on September 19, 2007 @ CSDR and discussed issues dealing with sportsmanship. The student-athletes wrote what they want to see demonstrated in league play in the areas of sportsmanship as it relates to the behavior of the players, coaches and fans. The results of the summit are as follows:

Sportsmanship – The Arrowhead league should demonstrate a positive attitude on the courts and fields. We should respect each other, show appreciation for good plays, play honestly, exhibit good character, each person should play hard and do it all in the spirit of fair play.

Fans – Be respectful to the other team, respect referee decisions, show spirit and sportsmanship, respect school property, respect policies, keep booing to a minimum, and keep cheering positive, respect everyone.

Players – Before the game, greet and welcome the other team, be respectful, be glad that you can compete, no trash talk, focus of the good stuff, and no animosity. During the game, be an encourager, if you knock someone down, pick them up, no attitude or ego, be humble, demonstrate fair play, build up each other, no bad language, every play is a new play, control your temper, respect you own teammates, and respect the officials’ calls.

Coaches – Be friendly with other coaches, don’t treat them like enemies, after the contest the coach should interact with the opponents, coaches should pull out players who are acting unsportsmanlike, win or lose, the coaches should demonstrate good attitudes, they should support other athletes and should encourage their own athletes.
