We’re excited to officially announce our new Head Coaches for the Fall Sports Season at California School for the Deaf, Riverside!

Football – Galvin Drake
Coach Drake is a proud CSDR alum and former athlete at Gallaudet University with over 12 years of coaching experience and 18+ years in strength and athletic development. As a key part of CSDR’s football program, he helped build a championship culture that led to 3 state titles and years of success. Now stepping into the Head Varsity Football Coach role, he’s ready to continue that legacy through discipline, growth, and leadership.

Cheerleading – Andrea Thomas
A proud CSDR alum with nearly 12 years of experience supporting the cheer program as an assistant coach, team mom, and leader, Coach Thomas has built strong connections while helping athletes grow in strength, skill, and unity. She now steps into the head coaching role ready to lead with passion, energy, and purpose while continuing to push the program forward.

Cross Country – Donald Cochran
Coach Cochran returns as Head Cross Country Coach bringing nearly 20 years of experience and a lifelong passion for running. Having competed in cross country and track since middle school and throughout high school, he looks forward to building a strong and supportive program while helping athletes develop both conditioning and team chemistry. He also plans to introduce a summer cross-country camp ahead of the season and welcomes all students interested in joining the growing program.

Girls Volleyball – Darriyan Thomas
We’re thrilled to announce Coach Thomas as the new Head Girls Volleyball Coach. She has been involved in volleyball since age 12, competing for six years at California School for the Deaf, Fremont before continuing her athletic career at Gallaudet University, where she played for four years and earned NEAC Athlete of the Year honors twice.

At the international level, Coach Thomas has represented Team USA since 2016, earning a bronze medal at the 2017 Deaflympics in Samsun, Turkey, while also competing in the 2022 Deaflympics in Brazil and the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan. Since returning as a staff member in 2019, she has developed a strong passion for coaching and is excited to lead the girls volleyball program at CSD Riverside while helping student-athletes grow into stronger and more confident players.
