The buzzer shot wasn’t enough to win.

In the 1st quarter, Silver Valley was on fire with a BIG run, 9-0, within the first four minutes. Coach Valencia called a time-out and gave the players a message: “RELAX!” CSDR then came back with an answer with a 9-0 run of their own. By the end of the 1st quarter, Silver Valley led 11-9.

In the 2nd quarter, Silver Valley continued to hold on to the lead by scoring 11 points to CSDR’s 9. Silver Valley led at the half, 22-17.

In the 3rd quarter, CSDR did better on defense and offense, which helped them win the quarter, but it was not enough to help the Cubs to capture the lead. In the 4th quarter, CSDR was down by 3 points with 2.5 seconds remaining on the clock. Alan Alcocer made the last buzzer shot (a nice three-pointer!) and helped CSDR tie the game, so the game went into overtime.

During overtime, Silver Valley quickly jumped ahead with a 4-0 run and CSDR fought back with everything they had. With 1 second left, Noah Valencia tried to make the last shot but it didn’t go through. Silver Valley won a very close game, 44-43.

Noah Valencia led the Cubs with 24 points, he also made nine rebounds and six steals. Also contributing for CSDR were Nathaniel Humpal (7 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks), Jacob Weiss (5 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals), and Christian Jacobs (2 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal).

“It was a really painful loss. Our boys finally understood how to play great defense during the second half, but we need to play great the whole game. It was a tough loss to a good team. I’m looking forward to our next game coming up this Tuesday in which we play in a game against last year’s league champion, Upland Christian,” stated Coach Valencia.

CSDR (2-2) will play in a league game against an undefeated Upland Christian at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, December 8, at the MAC.
