A game to remember.
In the first quarter, CSDR played very flat; however, they led at the end of the quarter, 21-8. In the Second quarter, we were struggling with our defense and gave Baker the opportunity to score 13 points.
At halftime, Coach Valencia decide to change the line up and give other players a chance to step up their game. Good enough, CSDR’s bench helped the team and played great on defense. The Cubs went on a 32-8 run in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the players just set up their goals to play great on defense and they let Baker score only 4 points. This mindset helped CSDR capture the victory (94-33) over Baker.
Noah Valencia broke two records: 1. most points scored in a single game, 71 points (the previous record was held by John Foronda who scored 50 points in 1974; and 2. he broke his own personal record with 10 three points made in a single game (his old record was 7 three points made in a single game).
Also contributing for CSDR were Jacob Weiss (6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals), Nathaniel Humpal (4 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal), Raymond Lee Jr. (3 points), Alan Alcocer (3 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals), Ermias Thomas (3 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals), Brandon Figueroa (2 points, 1 rebound), and Christian Jacobs (2 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals).
“I am very pleased to see our bench step up their game to help our starter group. Also our guys played some great defense in second half. However, they need to learn to play great defense during the whole game, especially now that we’re going to play against Silver Valley who beat us by 14 points last year,” stated Coach Valencia.
CSD-Riverside (2-1) will have another game on Saturday, December 5, at 4:00 p.m., vs. Silver Valley at the Knights Classic in Apple Valley.
