NDIAA is thrilled to announce the results of our 4th annual Winter Sports selections. The committee spent many hours on the selection process on each sport. The time invested was well worth it, for our excellent Deaf schools and fine athletes deserve to be recognized for their hard work, dedication, and achievements. Here is the list of Winter Sports selections:

Boys Basketball

Div 1

National Champions: Alabama School for the Deaf & Maryland School of the Deaf

Coach of the Year: Paul Robinson – Alabama School for the Deaf

Player of the Year: Raymond Nelson – California School for the Deaf, Riverside

National Champions: Wisconsin School of the Deaf

Coach of the Year: Mike Eldred – Wisconsin School for the Deaf

Player of the Year: Jose Castillo– Wisconsin School for the Deaf

Girls Basketball

Div 1

National Champions: Florida School for the Deaf

Coach of the Year: Jessica Smirl, Florida School for the Deaf

Player of the Year: Claire Tucker, Maryland School for the Deaf

Div 2

National Champions: Minnesota School of the Deaf

Coach of the Year: Steve Hubmer – Minnesota School for the Deaf

Player of the Year: Cindy Siebert – Minnesota School for the Deaf

Wrestling

National Champions: Maryland School of the Deaf

Coach of the Year: Chris vonGarrel – Maryland School for the Deaf

Wrestler of the Year: Albert Blake – Model Secondary for the Deaf

The list of All Americans will be announced next week. The committee would like to thank the Athletic Directors and coaches for their utmost commitment to their athletes’ development, character and talent. The responses to the nomination forms has been overwhelming. We also have to recognize everyone as a winner on and off the field.

Congratulations on the accomplishments and with that, we forward to the upcoming spring season.
