CSD-Riverisde Boys Basketball Lost In Overtime! 1/29/2015
CSD-Riverside coaches wore blue ties and the team wore blue socks in honor of one of our biggest supporters, Holly Bernstein, who contributed 36 wonderful years to the school as a teacher, cheerleading coach, mother, grandma, loyal fan, and more.
CSD-Riverside led the charge in first quarter with the score being 13-11. In the second quarter Sherman shifted their game plan and scored 20 points. Sherman led 31-26 at halftime. In the third quarter CSDR tried to come back with a hard fought effort, and they led at the end of the quarter, 41-40. The fourth quarter was a back and forth game, with CSDR and Sherman swapping the lead 8 times. The score was never more than 4 points and as a result, we had to go into overtime!
In overtime, Sherman jumped out to a 4-0 run. Noah Valencia tried to answer back with three points; however, they made their free-throws. Sherman led by two points. CSDR then missed two free throws and then was forced to foul Sherman with 1.5 seconds left. Sherman missed the FT. Desean Welch attempted a three pointer but time was expired. CSDR lost to Sherman 58-56.
Valencia led the charge for CSD-Riverside Boys Basketball’s offense, scoring 30 points. He also contributed eight rebounds and three steals. Nathaniel Humpal tapped out at double digits, scoring 10 points. Also contributing were Mavrick Fisher (6 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block), and Alan Alcocer (5 points, 2 rebounds).
“It was a hard fought game for our boys. We were hoping to win for Holly tonight but we just gave another game away. We have to give credit to Sherman who wanted it more than us. We didn’t execute on defense tonight and we gave up too many 2nd chance shot attempts,” stated Coach Hamilton.
CSDR will host their next game against another league opponent, California Lutheran, on Monday, February 2 at 6:00 p.m.
