The first quarter was pretty tense for the team’s defense, and in the 2nd quarter the Cubs went on a 8 point run to give them a big lead, 24-16. Upland Christian decided to call a timeout and after that they staged a big comeback with a 15-0 run before halftime arrived. Upland Christian led 31-24 at halftime.
In the third quarter, CSDR was basically cold on all fronts, scoring only 4 points total. Upland jumped out to a bigger lead, 45-28. In the 4th quarter, CSDR finally found themselves back in the game and although they had a solid finish, adding 19 points in the final quarter, it wasn’t enough for a comeback.
CSDR fell to Upland Christian, 59-47. Upland made 45% of their shots against CSDR, while the Cubs shot 32% with 26 turnovers.
Mavrick Fisher tapped out double digits, scoring 11 points for CSDR. Also chipping in for CSDR were Christian Jacobs (9 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block), Alan Alcocer (3 points, 3 rebounds), Noah Valencia (19 points, 7 assists, 7 steals), Ermias Thomas (3 points, 1 rebound) and Desean Welch (2 points, 8 rebounds).
“We just played one quarter (4th). We need to learn to play all four quarters. Our turnovers hurt us, because when we turn the ball over, they scored. We didn’t. The bottom line is that they just wanted it more than us tonight. We have to give Upland Christian credit. We will need to be ready every game and get them back next time. Happy holidays,” stated the coaching staff”.
CSDR is now 5-5 (1-1), and will play against CSDR Alumni in a game this Saturday, December 20, at 3:00 p.m., at MAC.
