Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to give a big THANK YOU to all of you that helped the Cheer Team stay this weekend on campus!  We had a very successful time! It would have been impossible without your support!   A special thanks to Security who were very helpful with letting us in and out.

Here is a recap of this weekend’s “Cheer Adventure”: On Saturday, the cheer team practiced all morning in the Social Hall. We then left to attend a Cheer Clinic at  Cal State San Bernardino. The team enjoyed learning new cheers and dances and performing at the CSUSB Men’s Basketball half time show.  On Sunday, was our big event. We went to Brea Olinda High School to compete at the USA Regional Competition in hopes to qualify for USA Nationals.  And…We DID! We brought home a 1st place plaque for our division, Co-Ed Show Cheer Novice, and have qualified to compete at Nationals March 31-April 1st at the Disneyland Convention Center. I am so proud of our Cubs!

Most importantly, the Cheer Team once again, represented CSDR and the Deaf community wonderfully!  Many students from other schools wanted to have their pictures taken with the “Deaf team” because they were so impressed, or they wanted to “talk with them” because they were learning ASL. Our team members were very gracious and accommodated every request with a smile and an attempt to communicate. One cheerleader from another school has a father who graduated from CSDR in the 70’s and was enthralled to learn that there was a CSDR cheer team and couldn’t wait to go home to tell her dad. These are some of the reasons we compete at “hearing” events, to continue to expose the world to the fact that Deaf can do whatever the “normal” people can do.

Thanks again for your continued support!

Cheers,

Stacey Hausman
