Kathleen Lopez has been involved with Varsity Volleyball for 4 full years. The last two years she was our team captain and I could not be more pleased with the progress Kathleen has made over the years! Kathleen has blossomed into an outstanding student-athlete as she is juggling her school, clubs/organizations and sports while maintaining above 3.00 GPA. Her leadership skills during volleyball practices and games are impressive as she has endless patience working with variety of personalities on the team helping them to improve their skills. At the same time, she is challenging and encouraging our other players to perform their best. Kathleen is a wonderful player on and off the court. If we are either winning or losing, she continues showing her passion while playing and not giving up until the very end of the game. She received her first all-star award at Spike Out 2016 at Indiana School for the Deaf. It is truly a pleasure having her on the volleyball team and most of all, she is a fantastic role model at CSD-Riverside as she met her 6 pillars of Character Counts.

Kathleen is a student of mine, and I have always admired how she is goal-orientated. In all of our class interactions, I always learned something new from her. She is a proud Latina woman, and she wants to become a role model for others. Her dedication to her post-graduation plans in the past month has been outstanding, and I look forward to see what kind of future she will make for herself.

Cale Gamache showed up at practice early every day and he always practices hard every time. He always accepts new positions I placed him in and he was very eager to learn his duties at his new position. There are some times when I had to change his position to fit in our offense and defense and his adaptability is invaluable. He is a quick learner and team player and this recognition should not go unnoticed.

Cale has always been an outstanding student in my class. He does not only complete his work with quality, he also brings plenty of his thoughts to the table. Out of all students, he is one of few who actually make book recommendations that is outside of my reading interests. Similar to what he does for my class readings, I read them at home and arrive to the class to discuss with him about his chosen novels. He is above and beyond student!
