First WIN of 2016!
CSD-Riverside opened the game with a 12-9 lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Cubs were struggling on both defense and offense and didn’t run the ball well on the court, but still managed to keep a 30-23 lead at the half. In the third quarter, on the strength of a 14-3 run and 25 points total in the quarter, CSDR extended the lead to 20 points. In the fourth quarter, Boys Republic tried to stage a comeback; however, CSDR still led by 10 points before the Cubs captured total control of the game and won 70-54.
Nathaniel Humpal tapped out double digits, scoring 18 points and 6 rebounds. Also chipping in for CSDR were Christian Jacobs (8 points, 13 rebounds, 4 steals) and Jazob Caldwell (4 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal).
“Our players didn’t fully show up today due to returning from a long break. We did have a few practices during the break, but we needed to have the FULL squad together to practice and prepare for the game, which didn’t happen. We still won the game, though. We need to be more consistent with our high intensity during the whole game. I have to give a hats off to Boys Republic – they didn’t give up,” stated Coach Valencia.
CSDR will play against California Lutheran in an away game on January 7 (Thursday ) at 6:00 pm.
