Good News!

CSDR Cheer Team came home with 3rd place in the Novice Co-ed Varsity Show Cheer division at the USA Nationals that was held on Friday, March 26.  We were thrilled!  The teams that beat us all had over 16 members, which allowed them to do more complex and difficult stunts and pyramids,  compared to our 10 member team.  Even though we had a liberty (where the girl stands on one leg while being held in the air), we were told we could not use it because we did not have enough people to base it on both sides, so we had to change it at the last minute. Another interesting fact is that only one of our team members, Marilyn Rivas, has ever been to a Nationals competition before.  Everyone else was brand new to this type of competition, so I was extremely proud of the way they handled performing in front of a crowd of over 5,000 people.

It was definitely a wonderful positive experience for our Cheer Team members.  They truly represented the Deaf community and CSDR well and continue to inspire many “normal” students with their abilities. Many of the cheer members asked me when the next competition would be and were disappointed to learn they had to wait until next year to compete again.

Please congratulate the following Cheer members when you see them.  They really are a talented and dedicated group: Juan Alvarado, Claudia Atkinson, Caprice Beccera, Aaron Blades, Aaron Brooks, Amanda Gallegos, Artesia Harris, Sean Huber, Patricia Joran, and Marilyn Rivas.

Thank you all for your continued support of the CSDR Cheer program.  We would not have been successful without your belief in us.

Cheers,
