CSDR Boys Basketball finished in 6th place. In the first game, we lost to Texas by one point, 49 – 48. We were up 21-3 to start the game but the turnovers and foul trouble helped Texas to catch up. They finally took the lead with 37 – 33 at the end of 3rd quarter. We fought back to regain the lead with 48 – 47 with 22 seconds. Texas missed the 1st shot and our boys tried to rebound but it slipped out of their hands. The Texan was able to pick up and sank the basket with 2 seconds left. That was heartbreaking loss for us.
In second game against Lexington School, they were bigger, faster and stronger. We had to outsmart them by getting their big men in foul trouble. The largest margin between us was 6 points but the rest of game was so close. Our turnover at the end helped Lexington to score and sent us to the overtime. In overtime, we controlled the tempo and played great defense. The final score was 50 – 47.
In the consolation game against MSSD, we had the lead with 17 – 10 in the first quarter. The next 3 quarters, the game was MSSD’s ball court as they dominated us with their size, speed, strength. We ran out of ammunition. MSSD won with 49 -30. Derek Keels was selected on All-Tournament team. I am truly proud of our boys as they worked so hard and did the best they could give.
CSDR Girls team proved to be the “inexperienced teamâ€. They lost to MSSD in the first round, who later won the Clerc classic championship. In second round, they lost to Lexington and they had a star player who dominated us both outside and inside. She was clearly unstoppable. For the consolation game against Texas, we played more aggressively. They played their best as if they have nothing to lose. They maintained their lead for the most part of the game. It was a good win for the girls. It is best to go home with at least one win.
Overall, the trip to Maryland was a rewarding experience for most of us and they had the opportunity to see the talented young players and socialized to make new friends.
We are excited and looking forward to next week’s WSBC tournament here at CSDR. We hope we could execute and play well than what we did during Clerc Classic.
Go Cubs!
