Our second game took place last night in chilly conditions, but that didn’t stop our 3rd and 4th grade flag football team from playing their hearts out on the field against a bigger and stronger team. The final score read 14-0, with us on the losing end, but the actual play didn’t reflect the score at all. During the first half, our boys battled the other team with gusto. Their offense was stronger, but our defense did very well. The other team scored in the opening minutes of the game, and then we didn’t let them score again until the very end. Our offense did well, too. We almost scored a couple of times but we need to learn how to hold onto the ball more often and lessen the number of turnovers.

Dawsen Bashaw deserves special recognition for his assertiveness on and off the field, his fierce team spirit, and his willingness to work hard to stop the other team from scoring. We would also like to extend special thanks to Bonita and Valory, who brought in snacks and drinks for the team. To all the fans who attended the game, thank you for continuing to show your support. Be sure to attend our next game, which is next Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Villegas Park.

On a special note, we received the Sportsmanship Award from Riverside City Park and Recreation for the team’s outstanding sportsmanship on and off the field during the game last week. This is a big honor for us to get this kind of recognition. The best part is that we got this award during CSDR’s Character Counts! Spirit Week, so we would like to thank CSDR for instilling some good values in our Cub players!
