The CSDR Boys’ Varsity Basketball Team traveled to Boys Republic (BR) for a game last night. There has been a long history of CSDR not playing well on BR’s court; however, CSDR won the game on BR’s court last year. But CSDR had not won two in a row before. BR is always an unpredictable team because they have different players on their rosters each semester and we play them once in the first semester and once in the second semester.

At the beginning of last night’s game, BR opened with great poise and led at the end of the first quarter, 12-10. In the second quarter, though, CSDR answered back and went on a gigantic 22-10 run so by halftime the score was CSDR 32, BR 22. During the third quarter, both teams played a very slow game. CSDR held on to the lead with the score being 43-30 at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the fourth quarter, BR tried their best to catch up but CSDR controlled the momentum and won the game 58-42.

Jacob Weiss scored 14 points, Noah Valencia scored 20 points, and DeSean Welch scored 10 points.

Tonight was not pretty victory for us. There is one big announcement that I must make, though, as it is a proud moment for the team and especially for me as a coach because DeSean took his very first charge ever tonight! He’s 6’4” and usually looks for the block instead of the foul. I worked closely with him for two years to do a good defensive job, including taking charges, and he finally did it tonight! That accomplishment was the highlight of the game and it was one of my proudest moments as a coach. Tonight we have a big game against Sherman Indian (who we lost to by two points last Tuesday night). I know that tonight will be another long battle for the Cubs. Hope to see our beloved CSDR community at the game at Sherman and give our players plenty of positive energy tonight,” stated Coach Valencia

CSDR will travel to Sherman Indian for a 6:00 p.m. game tonight.
