CSDR community,

We are exciting to share with you a great news happened last Saturday the 13th! Although the varsity team only won two out of five matches at Desert Duals Tournament, we placed THIRD tied with Shadow Hills and Palm Desert! Those school’s wrestling teams are in Division III & IV, while our wrestling team are in Division VI, which is pretty impressive with our wrestlers’ performance!

***Varsity Results***

6 teams participated the varsity tournament; CSDR, Villa Park, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Shadow Hills, and La Quinta.

vs Palm Desert, won 48-22. Jose Garica, 115lbs was able to execute the game with a pin at final 3 seconds. Albert Corona,126lbs upsets the opponent with a pin at 1:13. Rogelio Maciel, 152lbs showed an outstanding performance with five takedowns before pinning the opponent at 1:41. Hiroshi Nakama pinned his opponent at 3:17 with a beautiful takedown.

vs Palm Springs, won 36-28. Wayne Aguirre, 138lbs upsets his opponent with a surprise pin at 1:37. Giovani Sanchez, 182lbs is our hero of the game as he cliched our win with a pin at final 13 seconds!

vs Shadow Hills, lost 0-75. Although 8 out of 11 wrestlers actually had several close calls.

vs La Quinta, lost 12-70. We got points from a forfeit and a default.

vs Villa Park, lost 4-64. Rogelio Maciel, 152lbs was able to bring us four points with a major decision, 10-2.

First place: Villa Park
Second place: La Quinta
Third place: CSDR, Shadow Hills and Palm Desert
Fourth place: Palm Springs

***Junior Varsity Results***

4 teams participated the junior varsity tournament; CSDR, Shadow Hills, La Quinta A, and La Quinta B.

vs Shadow Hills, lost 6-72. This is the very first match for 7 wrestlers out of 9. Steven Briseno, 145lbs was able to bring us six points with a pin at 3:12.

vs La Quinta A, lost 12-63. Joshua Browne, 152lbs was able to bring us 6 points with a pin at 3:53. We got another 6 points from a forfeit.

vs La Quinta B, lost 30-42. the team has showed a huge improvement which almost got us first win. Laura Vera, 138lbs wrestled with another female wrestler and won with a pin at final five seconds! Carl Cardenas, 160lbs won with a quick pin at 43 seconds.

Overall the tournament was wonderful experience for our wrestlers. The level of competition is very tough as this prepares them for playoffs in February. Our wrestlers continue to impress us as a lot of improved performances were shown. We all are very proud of our wrestlers and looking forward to continue working with them and raising their bar.

We will have our very first varsity home game of the season this Wednesday, 17th at 4pm. The match format will be tri-meet against Poly and West Valley. Come and show support to our amazing team!
